Summer of Lager

Tasting notes: The lager is the lightest, most refreshing of our beers. It's a classic Bavarian style lager with a delicious bready malt palate and an assertive noble hop finish. It just makes your mouth beg for more...

Randy's comment: "We brew this smooth beauty with a DeWolf-Cosyn Belgian lager malt, a German Munich malt, and a touch of wheat malt, and instill it with all Mt. Hood hops, a triploid hybrid of the Hallertau. It takes forever to age (usually we brew it in October for sale the following summer) but it's so worth it.

About the Name: Benji really wanted us to name this one "Paul Bunyan, A Famous Lager." He still hasn't forgiven me for the veto... it just wasn't Nantucket-y enough. Our friend Malcolm Brooks is well known on the island for his unique graphic design work (I actually met Randy through a string of events that followed from me purchasing a Malcolm shirt back when I worked on the Bartlett Farm truck in 1991. Thanks Mal!) so we asked him to do something fun with our logo. The result was the cool groovy sunflower.

Then, last spring, my old home-brewing buddy Kevin Platt (now a Slavic Languages professor at Pomona College, wow!) came out to the island and I solicited his opinion. Upon seeing the artwork, he suggested the "Summer Of" name, and since we're sort of hippies at heart, it stuck. Rock on!

Serving Suggestion for the Perfect Summer Meal:

The lager and the Nantucket wine
were great, and any meal is
guaranteed to be more amusing
with Cristina and Lu. (I'm sure if you
tell them you're having lobster,
they'll show up for your party too!)

This meal was, as Lu would say, "Epic."
